We have started our art unit on Charcoal today. We used charcoal sticks to explore techniques such as hatching, cross hatching, blending, stippling, scrumbling and expressive lines. Well done children. 

We have started our year by reading the book Duffy’s Lucky Escape. We have written some poetry based on the illustrations. We have also drawn the turtle in art and worked on our colour blending skills. 

We have created our final pieces in our art unit today. We have been analysing architecture and developing our sketching skills. We combined them all together to create our own city skyline. Fantastic work Class 3! 

In Science, we have been collecting soil to understand that it is made from rock and organic matter. We have collected different types of soil, such as from around trees or in plant pots. To keep it a fair test, we put the same amount of soil in each pot as well as the same amount of water. We…

In Science, we have been studying how rocks are formed. We have created models of the sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks through using Starburst sweets. We analysed the features of each ‘rock’ to create each rock form. We had lots of fun. 

We have been practising our sketching skills with our pencils. We have then applied them to our sketches of the Gherkin building in London. 

Today we have been taught by a member of our class who created a poster to explain all about igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. We have analysing the artwork of Richard and Judith Lang. They collect rubbish from the beach and create sculptures of sea creatures. 

We have designed and and created our own sculptures. We love them. 

Class 3 have been studying the music piece Yoyo and The Little Auk. We listened carefully to the music and created our own graphic notation to go with the piece. We then selected percussion instruments to create our own version of the music. 

We have been investigating how light travels in straight lines. It reflects off a mirror according to the law of reflection. We found some darker areas in the classroom to complete this investigation before drawing and labelling our diagrams. 

Today we did some 'noticing' outside. We reflected on what we were grateful for, what had stood out in our day, where we had been our best selves and any small changes we could make to balance our lives.
