Deaf awareness and support training

Today we had a lesson all about ‘deaf awareness’ led by a specialist teacher and one of our classmates! They shared a PowerPoint they had created together full of facts, some even new to our teachers! Did you know one of the worlds greatest composers, Beethoven, carried on making music whilst deaf? He used the vibrations the music made. Did you also know that one of our favourite authors, Julia Donaldson, also lost her hearing as an adult?
We impressed our visitor with our knowledge of hearing, which links to our Science topic. We finished the session talking about how we can support people with hearing loss, such as talking clearly and one person at a time, facing the person we are speaking to. We then got to meet a special animal, Hettie the hearing dog who supports people with hearing loss in case of an emergency.
