Today we moved our cocoons to the Butterfly Pavillion.
We carefully removed the lid to our pots where the caterpillars have attached themselves to, we used a brush to remove any silk frass webs from around the cocoons. This step is very important as we need to ensure no webbing is left so that when the butterflies emerges they don’t get stuck or tangled in the silk preventing them from getting out of the cocoon or stretching out their wings.
A few of the cocoons had already fell off the lids in the pots so we carefully placed them flat on the floor of the net. The other lids we attached to the sides of the netting.
We have everything crossed for possibility of butterflies in the next two weeks!
