Today in our maths session, Class 1 were exploring 1 more than and 1 less than a number. We talked about what 1 more and 1 less means then went outside to our outdoor classroom to practise finding one more and one less.
First, Mrs Philp called out a number and we had to go and get that amount of sticks. We carefully counted to check we had collected the correct amount. Mrs Philp then asked us to show one more and we all knew we had to go and find one more stick.
Mrs Philp then chose a different number but this time asked us to go and get 1 more than that number so we had to work out what 1 more was before going to get that amount of pine cones. We all did brilliantly, some of us chose to check with our friends before going to get that amount of pine cones.
Finally, Mrs Philp challenged us to go and get some items to show 1 less than a number and we had to think carefully and remember that 1 less means that we take 1 away. We again worked brilliantly to show 1 less.
Well done Class 1!
