Image of A fantastic day at the Black Country Museum!

Today class 2 have had a fantastic day out at the Black Country Museum. As part of our history topic ‘Family History’, we learnt all about life in the early 1900s. First, we went back to school! We learnt all about the lessons children used to have and were told that children who were naughty were caned on their hands! We had to practise the alphabet backwards and had a music lesson where we practised the song Hickory Dickory Dock. After school, we walked around the village. We learnt that the Black Country got its name from the black coal and the black smoke that filled the sky from all of the chimneys. We went to the limelight cinema (which was very different to modern day cinemas) and watched an old fashioned Mickey Mouse programme. Finally, we visited some of the shops and houses in the village. We went to the local shop and learnt lots about what they sold. We visited one of the small ‘one up one down’ houses which had one room upstairs and one downstairs and would house 8 people! We had such a brilliant day and we learnt so much about life in the past.
