The Mackintosh

Today in design and technology, we investigated the invention of the mackintosh.

First we found out about Charles Macintosh who found invented a way of creating waterproof fabric. Macintosh was able to find a way of
making waterproof fabric by layering fabric with natural rubber. This kept the material flexible enough to make clothing out of, but made sure it was no longer absorbent. 

Today we made paper boats. We needed to find the best way to waterproof the paper, making sure we were still able to fold it into a
boat. Some boats and waterproofing strategies were better than others. Strategies we tried were: 

- Colouring the boat in wax crayon 

- Covering the boat in sellotape 

- Covering the boat using a plastic wallet.
