Today, Class 3 were all scientists exploring how our digestive system works.
Using bread, a banana, water, zip-lock bags and a pair of tights, we recreated the journey of food through the stomach and small intestine.
The children squeezed the bags to act like our stomach muscles mixing the food with acid from its lining. Then, we poured the mixture into the tights to show how water and nutrients are absorbed into the body, leaving all the waste products to enter the large intestine to form faeces.
The children loved the rather 'disgusting' experiment. Why not try it at home!
