Our maths focus this week in Class 1 is mass and capacity. Yesterday, we explored mass and used our bodies as a balance scale to work compare the mass of two objects and decide which is the heaviest and which is the lightest. All the children knew if the object was heaviest, the hand holding that object needed to move down and if the object in their hand was lighter, that hand had to move up.
Today, we have been working out how to get the balance scales to balance. All the children chose an object from our provision and then counted to see how many cubes it took to balance the scales. The children knew that the scales were balanced when the bowls on each side of the balance scale were at the same level.
Amazing work Class 1! Let’s see what fun we have tomorrow exploring capacity!
