Today we moved all of our cocoons into the butterfly net ready for them to emerge as butterflies! We had to be very careful and remove all of the silk webbing and frass from around the cocoons so that the butterflies don't get entangled in the silk when they emerge.
A few of the cocoons began to wiggle when we were transferring them to the net, we found out that they do this as they feel they are being attacked by a predator and use shaking to scare them off!
We hung each lid onto the inside of the hatching habitat and let the cocoons hang down and hopefully next week our butterflies will begin to emerge!
