Last week we learnt about the Anglo Saxon boat that was discovered at Sutton Hoo in 1939. We read lots of information about it and discussed how it may have got there and how the condition of the soil preserved it so well, making it one of the most exciting hoards ever found. This afternoon we became the Historians by looking at photos of artefacts uncovered during the dig and piecing together the clues to try and build a better picture of who the person buried in the ship might have been. We came up with ideas such as ‘he was a male who was a brave warrior because he was buried with his sword and shield and only men would have gone to battle.’ We also believe the jewels on his helmet along with the gold coins in an intricately designed purse show he was a rich man.
