Image of History - How diverse was the Roman Empire?

This is the Enquiry question we answered today in our History lesson. Every Roman emperor was male, as was the rule back then, however we have discovered that since the Roman Empire was so vast, only 20% of Roman soldiers were actually from Italy. They came from other countries such as Egypt, Greece, Spain, Africa and Germany. And, so long as you met the strict entry requirements for height, strength and basic literate skills, you could join regardless of your wealth. It was one of the most diverse armies ever!
