Class 1 have been very excited to see their caterpillars develop into cocoons. First of all the caterpillars climbed to the top of the cup and hung in a J shape.  Then they shed their  exoskeleton for the final time before they became cocoons. It took about 2 days for the cocoons to harden up. We then very carefully moved them to our butterfly net, using a paintbrush to gently remove all the silk and friss, so that when they emerge as butterflies they are able to come out safely.

The children recorded all of the changes in their caterpillar diaries.

We are all hoping that we will see them emerge as butterflies before half term!
