As part of our Attendance Policy, which has been written in line with Government guidance, we respectfully ask that parents refrain from taking children out of school during term time for the benefit of a holiday. Holidays taken during the term disrupt children’s learning and parents are at risk of being fined for doing so.  If you are planning on taking a child out of school during term time, please complete this form,

Term Time Holiday Request Form

and return to the school at least 4 weeks prior to the planned holiday.

Term Time Holidays

Previously, the school has received a number of requests for holidays to be taken during term time. Previous regulations allowed headteachers to grant leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during term time in “special circumstances” of up to ten school days leave per year. Headteachers have also granted extended leave for more than ten school days in exceptional circumstances.

Recent Government’s amendments to the 2006 regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments also make clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Headteachers are required to determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if the leave is granted.

Please note the information sent to schools below, which came into effect on 1st September 2013.

Parents should NOT book holidays, or take children out of school during term time. Any parent submitting a request for term time holiday MUST provide evidence of ‘exceptional circumstances.’

Pupils being taken out of school, without consent, will be classed as ‘UNAUTHORISED ABSENCE’ which may result in legal prosecution. Please take note of the latest guidelines regarding penalty notices for absence and lateness from the local authority by reading the attached letter.
