23 September 2019
On Monday 23rd September 2019, Anson took part in The Small Schools Multi Academy Trust's annual football tournament for the first time.
The competition was held at St. Mary's, Colton after school and from the moment we arrived to the final whistle of the last game it poured with rain!
A team of seven from class 4 participated, with every team playing 3 matches. The first match didn't start off well for Anson as The Howard school scored immediately. However, the talent of our team shone through as we eventually ran out comfortable winners. In the second game against St. Mary's, we really got into our flow, producing some really good football - topped off with a hat-trick by our captain for the day! That meant it was all down to the last match - against Richard Crosse. A breakaway goal saw them take the lead before a wonderful free-kick levelled the score. With the score at 2-2, we twice hit the woodwork - the match ending in a draw.
That meant we were all nervously waiting to see who the winners were - Anson or Richard Crosse - to be decided on goal difference. Mr Challinor gathered all the teams together to announce the winners. We were so happy to have won our first tournament and take the trophy back to Anson.
